Sonic Sphere at The Shed in NYC was another major step up for the project in terms of scale, scope and ambition. In close collaboration with The Shed's artist director Alex Poots, we created a highly diverse programme of music and sound art specially reworked for Sonic Sphere. The list of artists was impressive: The xx, Steve Reich, Carl Craig, Yeaji and Uniiqu3 to name a few. The team behind Sonic Sphere had grown exponentially since Burning Man. We took over a warehouse in Brooklyn in May 2023 to provide a space for our architects, engineers, visual and sound technicians, artists and volunteers to work around the clock to make Sonic Sphere happen. The NYC iteration was a feat of engineering, as we decided to suspend the sphere from The Shed's ceiling. But also, with more than a doubling of the speaker count (from 52.2 at Burning Man to 124.12) and an entirely re-designed lighting rig, the audio-visual architecture was equally ambitious. Apart from our curated daily programme, we opened up the sphere to local talent, and we saw some amazing work through these 'lab sessions'. Sonic Sphere at The Shed was a rollercoaster ride, a tour de force which was deeply inspiring and truly encapsulated the dynamism and energy of New York as a city.
